Our friends at The Research Network of Westminster College Oxford are hosting a one-day event entitled Women and Methodism: Contested Identities, Past & Present on Saturday 23rd May 2026 at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church in Oxford. Register here. They write:
Join us for an engaging day of discovery as we uncover the vital, sometimes overlooked and undervalued, roles women play; have played; and will play in the life of the Methodist Church and the communities it serves. From Susanna Wesley, the so-called “Mother of Methodism”, through to today, women have always been at the forefront of the movement. Whether the pioneering preachers of 19th century Primitive Methodism; the educators of the Wesleyan tradition; modern leaders; or the mothers, wives, tea-makers and those less celebrated in traditional scholarly debate, the importance of women within the Church’s three century history, and for the growth and future of the Church, cannot be overstated.
Contributors will include SWF’s Emma Pavey on a panel themed around women, ageing, the menopause, and leadership. This roundtable will explore the female experience, both within Methodism and in everyday life.
