Director of the Susanna Wesley Foundation, Sue Miller, recently held a conversation with, SWF Research Associate, Dr. Matthew Barber-Rowell regarding his book ‘Curating Spaces of Hope’ and the transformational leadership approach it advocates. Matthew shared his journey from unemployment, following the 2008 financial crash, to founding Spaces of Hope, a movement that fosters dialogue in marginalised communities by addressing impactful crises such as austerity. Matthew shares insights into his influences from William Temple’s public theology and Antonio Gramsci’s political theory which emphasise incarnational, negotiated, and shared leadership principles. Matthew has applied these principles in seminaries and reconciliation settings, promoting personal and societal transformation through collective action.
Matthews book, ‘Curating Spaces of Hope: Transformational Leadership for Uncertain Times’, is available for purchase on the Spaces of Hope website in addition to other notable bookstores.
