The Susanna Wesley Foundation (SWF) is launching a new research project into chaplaincy and the Church.
The project will look to map the current chaplaincy landscape in terms of understanding of chaplaincy and its primary contexts. As part of this, we will explore how chaplaincy is defined, trained for, and credentialed, as well as considering anticipated shifts in demands and opportunities for chaplaincy over the next decade. This research will also examine current models of training and continuing professional development (CPD), existing networks and associations, and areas where the SWF might effectively contribute, either independently or in partnership with others. A key part of this exploration will involve engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including connexional teams, educational leaders, overseas Methodist partners, and ecumenical organisations.
Throughout, the project will maintain a dual focus: serving the needs of British Methodism while engaging with the wider global and ecumenical context, with particular attention to partnerships and models emerging in South America, the United States, South Africa, and Australia.
